THE GARDENING CLUB

Words by Jessica Peace

Have you heard? We are going to Chelsea - and we are bringing the GERANIUMS!!!

First stop…

THE GARDENING CLUB

Gardening Club honcho Colin Roberts along with Duncan, Joe and the gang, are generating our geraniums for Chelsea...

ALL GOOD IN THE CLUB

Collin started the club 19 years ago, he wanted to keep it cheap for all us plant lovers. Think one ENORMOUS green house - with a cafe - with a fountain in it.

You can join the club for a fiver, jump in your car and fill your boot(s!); or, jump off the train at Crews Hill, choose your plants and have them driven to you. You can of course carry a few back on the train - good for the biceps, summer is coming.

Best bit about being in the club, most of the stuff is ready to plonk in, whether it’s your pansies, your box balls or your 8ft tree fern - you won’t completely empty your back pockets at the checkout either.

And the other best bit is our mate Joe…

Joe’s always knocking about ready to answer your questions at the club and happy to answer your fears once you’ve taken your plants home - your very own Monty Don/ Bunny Guinness.

Growing my own organic fruit and veg.

FAVE FLORAL SPACE?

FAVE GERANIUM?

Pelargonium 'Citriodorum'.

FINISH THE SENTENCE, ‘PLANTS ARE…’

... grounding.

DUNCAN, GIVE US YOUR POTTED HISTORY (IT’S A GOOD ONE!)?

Grandad was Head Gardener to the Queen at Windsor Castle, father was Head Gardener to the Duke of Marlborough at Blenheim Palace in Oxfordshire …

I grew up living in parks with beautifully maintained gardens, watching the plants and flowers change over the seasons. The experience was absolutely invaluable, although it did not really occur to me when I was young!

FAVE FLORAL SPOT? …

Any of the Royal Parks.

FAVE GERANIUM?

Zonal Geranium, vibrant reds and violets, especially when part of a mass planting as part of a formal garden.

PLANTS ARE...

An integral part of outdoor living - they allow your ‘outdoor room’ to subtly change throughout the year.
