Think you might be mad into your tulips as you shell out a fiver for a bag of 20 bulbs? Well, there was a passage of time in the 17th century termed literally ‘Tulip Mania’...

It was a bit like our financial ‘crash’ but had more to do with bulbs and blooms than mortgages. Just before the market collapse in 1637, you could buy a tulip for the equivalent of ten times the annual salary of your average worker. Blimey.
