Happy at home in coastal woodlands
Our houseplant friends never forget their roots, and they’ll always be the most content when their surroundings mimic their natural environment. Native to the coastal woodlands of Southern Japan, Taiwan and Korea, the delicate looking Aralia is a wildcard – she’s tough as old boots and hangs on in there through any hardship.
She doesn't like the sun too hot and is actually perfectly happy hanging out in deep shade as long as there’s some light to grow towards. As with any evergreen, winter is the time when she’s most sleepy so if you’re going to give her a trim cut her back towards the end of the year and watch her flourish come spring.
A little helping hand - With every houseplant we send out you get a handy little guide to help your new plant live its best life, including where they'll want to live and how often they like to drink.
Cool, moist and shady are the golden rules with this houseplant. She’ll thank you for a trip outdoors in the warmer summer months as long as there’s enough shadow for her to hide out in. Low temperatures are a must, but don’t go artic. If you’re comfortable without breaking a sweat then she’s going to love your company. You’ll see a lot of growth quite quickly especially in when you’re in her good books, so don’t be afraid to snip off a few leaves every now and then if she’s getting a bit big for her boots.
Lover of a regular drink, if her soil feels dry a good glug of water will sort her right out. Misting is a must – our gorgeous gal is a big fan of all things wet.
Good looking and friendly, no harm will come from eating her leaves (although we wouldn’t recommend it because they’re not too tasty). Pet and child friendly to the max.
Can you smell that crisp sea breeze? The fatsia grew up with the taste of salt in the air and she still craves that calm, cool woodland. Remember the golden rules we mentioned and she’ll be the perfect house guest.
