Our houseplant friends never forget their roots, and they’ll always be the most content when their surroundings mimic their natural environment. For the cheese plant that means a cosy spot with lots of moisture in the air and a clear view of the window, but try to avoid those golden rays hitting his leaves directly or he’ll not be a happy plant for long.
A little helping hand - With every houseplant we send out you get a handy little guide to help your new plant live its best life, including where they'll want to live and how often they like to drink.
This houseplant started life on the forest floor, and he's a big fan of bright indirect light. If his smaller leaves start growing towards the darker parts of your house he's looking for a tree to climb, so tuck them back in and move him closer to the window. Look out for yellow flags; yellow lower leaves can mean he's a bit chilly, and if they have brown tips the air is too dry so cut off the dead brown bits and get the mister out. When it comes to watering, if the compost feels dry give him a good soaking, but reduce the amount and frequency in winter to let him chill out a bit. If it's not too humid at home mist the leaves once a week and he'll reward you with lots of new leaves. As far as pets are concerned the Monstera bites back; his leaves are toxic so if you have a furry friend who likes to nibble leaves give this guy a miss or keep him out of reach.
Think Rambo - hot, sweaty (and hunky). Our happy tree climber started life on the forest floor, using aerial roots to attach itself to the trunks and branches of other trees to climb up towards the light. This plant comes with a inner trelis to give your plant something to cling onto, make sure to weave in any stragglers.
