Way back in Genesis when Eve got peckish and chowed down on some fruit dangling from a bough, all of a sudden her and her beau Adam got all self-conscious about dancin’ around in the buff and yanked off some fig leaves for their modesty. Cheers Eve.

Spencer Gore, part of the 'Camden Town Group', was prone to paint the scenes from his window - nice work if you can get it.His painting, ‘The Fig Tree’ (1912) shows the massive fig growing beneath his Mornington Crescent Gaff.

In the twenties Pulitzer prize winning writer and feminist Edna St. Vincent Millay published her poetry collection, ‘A Few Figs From Thistles’. It riled uptight readers because of its references to female sexuality - go on gal.
