MOMENTS IN POT CULTURE: THE HYACINTH

Words by Jessica Peace

“Beauty dies: that is the source / of creation”, writes American poet laureate and pulitzer prize winner Louise Glück in ‘Hyacinth’ (1968).

Psychedelic maynnn! Someone is following Rock God Jim Morrison about in ‘Hyacinth House’ (1971), “What are they doing in the Hyacinth House...?... To please the lions, yeah...” Uh! We’d have been your “brand new friends” Jim.

Ahh Hyacinth Bucket (“Bouquet!”), one of the best things to happen to 90’s telly. Hyacinth was the wannabe boujis of suburbia in ‘Keeping up Appearances’.
