Mop Heads
Words by Jessica Peace
We LOVE hydrangeas, we like them cut, dried and paired up with asparagus fern.
Here’s how to give them a spring boost.
IN THE GARDEN: THE CHOP
Chop off those papery blooms, shove them in a vase and let your new shoots come out to play.
THE GAFF: BATH TIME
Think, ‘hydra’ – water; they are not cheap dates, they like a drink. If yours is looking a bit worse for wear, plonk it in a sink of cold water for 4 hours.
THE SCIENCE BIT
The colour of the hydrangea petal depends on the pH of the soil... try adding more alkaline for pink [tricky!] or acid for blue [easy!].
