PLANT PORN: CHRYSANTHEMUMS

Poor old chrysanths. For the last couple of decades, this extremely versatile flower has got a bit of a bad rep a petrol station flower. We're here to change that.

Not just the bunches of acid yellows and oranges your questionable ex used to pick up from the Jet garage, these bad boys come in more colours, sizes and shapes than you shake a petrol nozzle at. From fuzzy sprays of tiny flowers, to pom poms bigger than your head, to ethereal spidery blooms - chrysanths definitely deserve a bit of re-considering.

RATING

Easy as. Growing them is pretty straight forward, and as a cut flower they're one of the longest lasting out there.

POT CULTURE

Chrysanthemums are absolutely laden with symbolism. In Asia, they signify life and rebirth - particularly in Japan where the auspicious flower is frequently used to adorn decorations and clothing. In Western culture, they're used as a mark of respect and sympathy, making it a common flower at funerals (not helping with its maligned rep I'd venture).
