PLANT PORN: FORSYTHIA
The eagle eye amongst you may have started to spot some of the first signs of Spring making themself known.
When the frost finally starts to clear, be on the look out for these little yellow blossoms brightening up the bare branches. A popular garden shrub, it shouldn't be long before you get an eyeful of this lovely plant.
THE DEETS
One of the more unusual plants (at least in the UK!) in that the flowers come before the leaves. Forsythia is really popular with garden designers for providing some colour in the early days of Spring, and with florists for it's beautiful architectural structure and longevity!
RATING
Easy peasy. Forsythias are the sturdy, stiff upper lip type, that do well most anywhere. As a cut flower, they last really well so long as you keep their water fresh!
FUN FACTS
Forsythia was named in honour of William Forsyth, one of the founders of the Royal Horticultural Society, so it's must be good!
In the Victorian language of flowers, it symbolised anticipation - fitting as we await longer Spring days!
