INHALE, EXHALE - BREATHWORK WITH AVNI SANGHVI

Why Breathwork is the New Yoga?

Just kidding, though Breathwork is a great way to deepen your current practice or introduce a safe and natural self-care tool into your daily routine for the new year.

If you are anything like me, sitting down to close your eyes and think about nothing is... extremely challenging or next to impossible for some, especially in current times.  So what if I told you there is another powerful tool where you can achieve some of the same benefits as meditation.

Cue breathwork.

As you’re reading this now, you’re probably breathing about 8-15 breaths per minute.  This slightly elevated breathing pattern is the ‘normal’ in today’s busy world.  Breathwork is the practice of using specific breathing techniques to change your breath and nervous system response rate in a matter of minutes.

Breathwork brings your body back into balance by allowing your nervous system to regulate itself so you instantly feel calmer, more grounded and peaceful.  A few benefits include stress relief, reduction in anxiety, improved sleep, increased mental focus, balanced mood and energy.

Give this balancing breath exercise a go –

  1. Find a comfortable seated position
  2. Place your hands on your knees
  3. Sit up straight
  4. Relax your face, and your shoulders
  5. Close your eyes
  6. Inhale through your nose for a count of 4
  7. Exhale through your nose for a count of 4
  8. Repeat 10 times

How do you feel?
