MOMENTS IN POT CULTURE: THE PRIMROSE

Words by Jessica Peace

Pre-Raphaelite William Henry Hunt believed that in nature, “you will find drawing, expression, colour, and light and shade, all of the most perfect kind” (agreed mate). His ‘miniature landscape’, ‘Primroses and Bird’s Nest’ (1840’s) went down so well with his arty mates he got the nickname “Bird’s Nest Hunt”.

“Primroses are the jewels that lurk /… Among masks of pleasure that flicker with doubt…”, now imagine sung in the sultry tones of Nico… that’s more like it. Nico, ‘Winter Song’ (1967).

‘Primrose Everdeen’ is a character in Susan Collins’ The Hunger Games (2008). To bang on about her will ruin it for late fans, basically she’s a tear jerker.
